Waxing Contraindications & Precautions

At Pretty Saditty Waxing Studio, your safety and skin health are our top priorities. To ensure the best waxing experience, please review the following guidelines before booking your appointment.

What NOT to Do Before Your Waxing Appointment:

  • Avoid sun exposure or tanning (including tanning beds) for at least 48 hours before waxing, as this can make the skin more prone to irritation and burns.

  • Do not apply heavy lotions, oils, or self-tanners on the day of your appointment, as they may create a barrier and affect hair removal.

  • Avoid consuming alcohol or excessive caffeine before waxing, as they can increase skin sensitivity.

  • Do not trim or shave the area before waxing. Hair should be at least 1/4 inch long (about the length of a grain of rice) for optimal results.

When NOT to Wax:

Waxing is not recommended if you:

  • Have sunburn, open wounds, cuts, or bruises in the waxing area.

  • Have had a chemical peel, microdermabrasion, or aggressive exfoliation in the area within the past 7 days.

  • Are currently experiencing a breakout, rash, or skin infection in the area to be waxed.

  • Are pregnant and new to waxing, as skin may be more sensitive. If pregnant, consult with your doctor first.

  • Have undergone laser treatments or had Botox/fillers in the waxing area within the last 7 days.

Medications & Substances to Avoid Before Waxing:

Certain medications and topical treatments can make the skin more sensitive, leading to excessive irritation or even skin lifting. If you are using or taking any of the following, please consult with your doctor before booking a waxing appointment:

  • Oral & Topical Acne Medications:

    • Accutane (Isotretinoin) (must be off for at least 6 months before waxing)

    • Retin-A (Tretinoin)

    • Differin (Adapalene)

    • Tazorac (Tazarotene)

    • Any other prescription-strength retinoids

  • Prescription & Over-the-Counter Medications:

    • Antibiotics (especially those that cause sun sensitivity)

    • Steroids (including prednisone)

    • Blood thinners (such as Warfarin)

    • Chemotherapy or radiation treatments

  • Skin Treatments & Other Products:

    • Chemical peels (including glycolic, lactic, salicylic acid, or TCA peels)

    • Benzoyl Peroxide

    • Hydroquinone (skin lighteners)

    • Alpha & Beta Hydroxy Acids (AHA/BHA)

    • Retinol-based anti-aging creams

If you are currently using any of the above or have any concerns about your skin’s reaction to waxing, we strongly recommend checking with your doctor before scheduling an appointment.

By booking a waxing service at Pretty Saditty Waxing Studio, you acknowledge that you have reviewed and understand these contraindications. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us prior to your appointment.
